Fivape press release
In the media spotlight since the launch of the CNCT's anti-vape campaign, vaping professionals would like to draw attention to the intense consumer mobilization seen in specialist stores over the past 3 days.
Feedback from the field shows that hundreds of vapers are worried about the prospect of no longer finding the products they need to quit smoking. They say they are ready to fight hard against any flavour ban.
At the request of its members, Fivape conducted an online survey which received over 6,000 responses from vapers in just two days: 86% of them said they were "very worried" about the prospect of a ban on flavors in vaping.
This statistic should be a wake-up call to the health authorities, as it illustrates the deleterious impact of the CNCT's "publicity stunt" on the 4 million vapoteurs' efforts to quit. Once again, vaping is singled out as a problem, not a solution.
Flavors in vape are not intended to appeal to minors, to whom the sale of these products has been banned since 2016. They enable the creation of attractive flavors for adult smokers.
To deny that flavors have made vaping a success with customers whose average age is 38 shows a profound lack of understanding of vape, and we deplore this.
It's the best method available for quitting smoking, and the most popular with the French. Such a ban would be highly unpopular.
Finally, we would like to draw your attention to the very significant economic consequences of such a decision. The independent vaping industry represents 15,000 direct and indirect jobs, all focused on helping smokers quit. Specialized stores base their support on the diversity of their products. Authorizing only tobacco-flavored e-liquids would mean reducing supply to such an extent that only vape products manufactured by the tobacco industry would remain.
We ask the health authorities to treat this report with the utmost caution, and invite them to work closely with representatives of the thousands of professionals in the vape sector who, on a daily basis, help French smokers to live better, healthier lives.
