Happy New Year?
Faced with the extent of the damage caused by vaping, the tobacco industry is trying to cling to risk reduction. But it is only perverting a powerful smoking cessation tool, creating confusion and encouraging measures that are aimed solely at eradicating competition from vaping and diverting attention.
According to the latest Xerfi study, and despite its claims about harm reduction, the tobacco industry generates 78% of its revenue from cigarettes—which kill one in two consumers. Professionals in the vaping industry who are independent of the tobacco industry, on the other hand, devote 100% of their business to helping people quit smoking.
We are the number one opponents of cigarettes and the tobacco industry. The impact of vaping on the decline in smoking in France is undeniable. And we are the ones driving it, with our products designed and manufactured in France, our innovations, and our expertise spanning nearly 15 years.
The measures on vaping products in Article 23 of the draft finance bill threaten the survival of our industry, representing 25,000 jobs and thousands of businesses, to the benefit of the tobacco industry and against the interests of smokers and ex-smokers.
To denounce it, the petition Don't kill vaping – letter to our elected representatives gathered more than 240,000 signatures, we demonstrated in seven cities in France and in Paris, the media gave extensive coverage to our campaign, and doctors and experts spoke out in defense of vaping. We achieved victories with the rejection of the article by the National Assembly and its dismantling in the Senate when it was resubmitted. We are being heard!
But it all starts again...
After the rejection of the entire 2026 finance bill in December, a special law was passed to avoid bringing the country to a standstill. Work must now resume, based on the latest version from the Senate. A new reading in the Assembly begins today and tomorrow in the Finance Committee, followed by a public session starting on January 13. The text will then follow the usual path for a bill, with a new reading in the Senate, a final reading and vote in the Assembly, which always has the final say. At each stage, anything is possible: a vote, rejection, amendments, 49.3...
We are already working on all fronts to continue to make our voice heard by the government, parliamentarians, and the media.
Well done again, and thank you all for your historic mobilization at the end of the year. We must maintain this energy as we enter a new season that is vital for the future of the industry.
May 2026 be a good year! We are working toward this goal with sincerity and determination. Best wishes to all.
